Races Entry 1: Monty Moles

Description

I wanted to test out an old paper-y feel of a bestiary, and had this flavor text for Monty Moles. Most of the text is based on information from the wiki and in-game observation, but I haven't bothered to put my own canon in italics, as I wanted it to feel hand-written. A clear version of the text follows below:

Monty moles are an ancient race in the Mushroom Kingdom, being moles, as the name implies. They reach an average of four feet,  but some individuals are known to tower their fellows at six to seven feet and mostly keep to themselves in the Mole Mountains in both surface and subterran settlements, but other mountainous regions in the Kingdom are also known to house Moles. While they live in clan-like societies, there are rumors of a high king whom governs the moles from far beneath the surface. Leader-wise, the moles follow the smart and cunning, and the rumored high king is supposedly the brightest of them all. The high King is said to rule for life, or until his mind grows dim, when a new high king is then elected. They make no difference between men and women, as the only thing that matters to Monty Moles are intelligence.

They aren't very religious and bear instead a great reverence for their ancestors. As one of the more practical races of the Kingdom, they where among those who turned cloak on the Mushroom King when his insane actions became too dire, as pointed out by the then current Koopa King.

Today, Monty Moles make up a great portion of King Bowser's airship mechanics, putting their exceptional engineering skills to the test. Despite being cave dwellers, they do surprisingly well in the skies, even going so far to aid the Demon King in his constructions of new ships. They also pride themselves on land based warfare, with their skills in arms construction. Monty Tanks are fearful contraptions spreading chaos on the battlefield, and their stationary cannons can defend stronghold for days on end.

Since they turned their back on the royal family, the moles are weary of outsiders, and attacks those who intrude on  their lands without hesitation. There are whoever clans who do not share their species' territorial insensitivity, such as the clan of Moleville, whom regularly does trade with the outside world, in the means of ore, pyrotechnics, and machinery. The moles who leave the mountains for one reason or another usually becomes shop owners, providing quality craftsmanship to small locals.

Monty Moles are omnivores, but very few hunt actively, save for the occasion cave insect or worm they might come across during their mining trips. They are instead known to farm the mountain sides, often focusing on the nutritional red yoshi fruit, which flourishes in the region.

Good use of screenshots,
although I much prefer their appearances in Super Mario World and the RPG, since they emphasize no their insectivore heritage more. (They're monty moles, not monty gophers).
None-the-less, excellent journal entry. You are quite skilled.
